These are solid steel shell broken case extractors for 7.62×39 rounds. They are used when the base separates from the walls of the case for whatever reason. It could be a defective case and/or lacquer built up and held on to the case so firmly that the base ripped off the case.
This will work on any model AK or SKS that shoots 7.62×39 just be clear.
These broken case extractors came to us all gummed up with cosmoline but otherwise in new shape. We ran them through our ultrasonic cleaner and coated them with oil and they are now ready for use.
If you need to use one to remove a cartridge case where the base pulled off but the walls are still in the chamber, here are the approximate instructions:
- Clear the base or debris out of the immediate chamber area.
- Hold the bolt open or remove the carrier
- Insert the extractor by hand with the narrow part forward
- Insert the bolt carrier and bolt and push it forward (don’t slam it)
- The barb on the tool will push into the case and when you pull backwards, the extractor of the bolt grabs the lip on the extractor and removes the case. If it feels stuck, it may be a situation where lacquer on the cases melted under high heat, built up and then “grabbed” the case. You can try heating it slightly and/or tapping from the other end with a wood dowel or whatever dowel material you want bearing in mind steel might hurt the rifling or chamber if you go crazy banging on it with a hammer.
- Done
Cool tool to have handy.
