We make custom gas tube covers for Zastava commercial PAP and military M70, M77, M85 and M92 series weapons. These will not fit the RPK-style M72 and am not sure about the M76 or M91.
These are made from glass fiber reinforced temperature resistant urethane plastic. Nothing can withstand red hot metal from prolonged firing but I will tell you an East German handguard melted like butter at 437F and our’s was just discolored and soft. Under normal use, it is going to hold up better than the original wood.
The covers are colored black and have our blasted matte finish.
This cover will likely require fitting to go on your weapon. I use a file to make adjustments on mine – just go slow and remove a tad, try, remove a tad and try, etc.
This is for just the gas tube cover – the top half of the handguard set – only. It uses the spring from your wood handguard set.
