This flat head pin replaces the dust cover hinge pin on the Zastava / Yugoslavian M85/M92 rifles and the corresponding Zastava PAP pistols to allow for rapid removal and does not have a pull ring – we have a model that does have the ring is you desire it (click here). The design comes in handy for cleaning or other times you want clear access into the receiver without the dust cover being in the way. The pin is the same diameter as the original Yugo hinge pin, fits snugly into the original hole and has a ball bearing detent on one end to secure it.
In case you are interested in using this pin for other weapons, the pin diameter is approximately 0.156″ and the working length, meaning from the bottom of the flat head to just before the ball bearing detent is approximately 0.8″. It’s made from 303 series stainless steel with a black oxide finish and is plenty tough to serve as a hinge pin.
This flat head design does not use a pull ring. With my personal M92, built from a virgin military kit. I find that I can run even the 0.7″ pin. I would recommend you use calipers and measure from the left outside edge of your cover hinge to the right outside edge then go with the pin that has the closest longer distance. For example, if your cover measure 0.6″ then select the 0.7″ pin. Yes, this listing is for the 0.8″ pin so it may be longer than you need so just confirm the distance before you buy. Nothing bad will happen if the pin is longer but if it is too short then the detent will not be able to be exposed to retain the pin.
With the cover of your weapon open, the camming pressure is released from the pin and it can be pushed right out. You install it by first removing your original pin. These pins are peened over a washer/spacer on the right side (the same side as the ejection port and charging handle) so you will need to use a dremel or other method to remove the peened over portion and then a punch to pop the pin out. That’s all there is to it. You can then push our pin in. Keep an eye on the little dustcover and gas tube retainer cylinder as it can slide out when the pin is removed.
If you would like to see a step-by-step guide of how to do this with a Dremel, please click here to see our blog posting about it.
This is our flat head model and does not need a pull ring.
